We've got a historic Tequila Tale for you! 📜

Did you know that tequila's history dates back over 3,000 years?

The Olmecs (and later the Aztecs) fermented agave sap into "pulque," a milky & sour drink that was used in religious rituals.

Fast forward to the 16th century, Spanish conquistadors were in the Americas and distilled agave into the tequila we know today. By the late 1800s, the first commercial tequila distillery was born!

Did you know that bats are the primary pollinator of the agave plant?

At night, bats drink from the plant's flowers and spread its seeds. Monocropping—growing agave without letting it flower—can also be used to grow new agave plants. However, monocropping leads to decreased genetic diversity of the plant and deprives bats of an essential food source.

Long story short, let the bats do their thing! 🥰

Fun fact: it can take from 7 all the way up to 20 years to make tequila from blue agave!

Once the blue agave plant is harvested, the agave is chopped, cooked, shredded, and juiced to produce a liquid called aguamiel. This is mixed with yeast and left to ferment for a couple of daysbefore being distilled and aged in barrels.

The aging time and type of barrel used creates the unique properties of your fave tequila!

Cheers to the craftsmanship behind every sip! 🥃
